Laurie R. Pearlman, JD '83, has been a Deputy Attorney General in the CA Department of Justice for 25 years, litigating matters in State and Federal trial and appellate courts. She began her career in the AG's Office litigating cases involving health, education, and public benefits. She then moved to the Environment Section where she litigated cases for the CA Department of Toxic Substances Control and the CA Department of Fish and Game involving CEQA, CERCLA, and the state and federal Endangered Species Act. She served as Supervising Deputy Attorney General of the Consumer Law section and has been in the Land Law section of the AG's Office since 2007.
The Land Law Section handles a broad range of significant legal matters for a large group of State agencies. The section's clients include the Resources Agency, Coastal Commission, California's seven land conservancies, the State Lands Commission, the California Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Division of Oil and Gas. She handles civil litigation through all phases of California and federal courts; represents boards and commissions during administrative hearings and public meetings; and renders legal advice on an ongoing basis to the section's public agency clients, and to the Attorney General and she has presented CEB programs, provided in-house training for the CA Dept. of Justice, and has spoken at the annual meeting of the American Association of Public Welfare Attorneys.
Adam R. Fox, JD '96, is the head of the Litigation Practice Group for the Los Angeles office of Squire, Sanders and Dempsey LLP. He has nationwide experience mediating, arbitrating and trying to verdict a broad range of complex commercial disputes, including environmental contamination and toxic exposure matters, product defect and liability claims, and international trade and banking controversies, among other subjects. Mr. Fox's client base includes such diverse enterprises as the American sugar industry, toy companies and automotive component manufacturers. Mr. Fox is also the author of several law review articles and other publications, and has lectured worldwide on developments in the law. Still under 40, he has been named in Benchmark Litigation as a Future Star, in Los Angeles Magazine as a Southern California Rising Star, and identified in The Legal 500 US as one of the "respected figures" in automotive and transport product liability defense. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Fox served as a judicial clerk for the late Honorable Robert B. Krupansky of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Mr. Fox is a graduate of the University of Colorado and Cornell Law School.
