Cornell Law School can send up to four students to Amsterdam Law School each academic year.

The Amsterdam Law School is located in the beautiful and historic center of Amsterdam, a city of one million people that serves as the financial and cultural capital of The Netherlands. The University of Amsterdam is one of the major universities in Europe. The Faculty of Law offers students a wide variety of courses and has a strong international orientation, with both a global and a European focus.

Academic Calendar
Each term is divided into two blocks.
In Fall 2009, they are:

  • 1st block: August 31 to October 23, 2009; Exams from October 26 to 30
  • 2nd block: November 2 to December 18, 2009; Exams from December 21 to 24

In Spring 2010, they are:

  • 1st block: February 1 to March 19, 2010; Exams from March 22 to 29
  • 2nd block: March 29 to May 21, 2010; Exams from May 31 to June 21

Calendar is subject to change.

The Amsterdam Law School offers a special exam schedule to Cornell exchange students. These students may make arrangements take the exams at an earlier date than the dates set down in the normal schedule, in order to meet the necessary academic and professional schedules in the U.S.

Courses and Credits
Exchange courses of the Faculty of Law taught in English are offered at master's level and in the following fields:

International and European Law

  • Public International Law
  • International Criminal Law
  • International Trade & Investment Law
  • European Union Law
  • European Union Business Law

European Private Law
Cornell students must enroll in at least four courses, totaling at least 35 EC’s (Amsterdam’s European Credit system units).
